When I stumbled on his army close to my throne (three turns-distance away) I was 70% certain I would lose but I hoped he would suffer heavy losses too so he wouldn't be able to take my throne, which had a couple of T2 units and a hero around. Also, I had no move points left to run, so I summoned a wisp to maybe help the odds a bit.
After this I produced some apprentices and then started to go south to find Marky and hopefully defeat him before he could recover completly. We had one more fight at his expansion:
