Could have gone much better. In general, the Halfling economics and the speed of dreadnought is a quite good combo. Massing forces and cities in no time even without the expander skill.
But keeping cannons and artillery in a middle hexagon is probably never a winning recipe for a dreadnought if an enemy can run to it directly in tactical. Saw that on the tactical replays.
@Refineus: yeah, you can only get 4 stacks if you attack so in PBEM it's hard to play with 4 stacks. I usually keep only 3 stacks together, and keep other units far enough behind to avoid behind attacked.
This was a very close game all the time, the first big army blow was after Refineus won a Naga Vassal I had right in the middle of the map between our territories. I was able to gather all my armies and I sent an "all in". I got hit hard, we bot lost our leaders but I got that city and defeated his army.
Then I pushed and razed 2 of his cities, when I saw he had a big army again, I decided to retreat to his vassals. To my surprise he was going "all in" to my territory, but I don't think he was able to position his stacks yet and probably not expecting that blow, I took that to my advantage and attacked him.
I lost my main 4 stacks when I decided to besiege his territory. It was a doom stack and he bearly won that battle without heavy casualties. Due to my bad positioning off stacks, he probably faced 3 stacks instead of 4 which turned it to becoming a 3vs3. I lost my two heroes.
Tried to recover with a small crusade of dreadnoughts units, and the plan was to chase his hero harassing my base. With engineers building roads, I came up with a plan to quickly catch up his forces. But it got turned down. Sadly I'm not able to recover from the second lose so the Halfling Dreadnought is finite for now.
