Dragon Dwelling
And yes in this game the Armour of the black knight arrived at my leader the same turn olop gave up so it didn't have any effect. But it's a bit too strong of an item i think, just look at my leader in the end
Pundroz is the dragon dwelling. It is on the surface in the middle of the map.
The "Evading Olop's Armies" was the retreat from the dragon dwelling.
I think all four players had quests at the dragon dwelling. After completing mine I did engage two other sets of creatures the next turn and one more several turns later.
Part of Gilafron's demise was a mutual decision we made on Hamplet (the city Thorgal captured for a turn). Since I took Hamplet from Thorgal I was able to cast a single wild animal there that joined in the battle on the sea. As it turns out, that may have turned the battle into a victory. But after the battle we decided to keep Hamplet under my control to increase my gold to apply towards building shamans. In addition, the indies captured at least one of Gilafron's cities underground almost the same turn Thorgal captured Hamplet.Â
Looking back, I was probably not aggressive enough mid game chasing the retreating armies after making the dragon dwelling a vassel. And I was a little two aggressive trying to send Molc (Fluksen) to the void near the end of the game. Though, I don't think we could keep production up to keep up with Fluksen and Thorgal.
After losing Hamplet Gilafron and I felt like time was not on our side. Our scouts found that the enemy had more cities than we did which meant more production as time went on. Also the heroes and units in the stacks were a little more experienced than ours. My big army did have an opportunity to engage just east of the dragon dwelling, but I decided to backtrack and wait for Gilafron and some shamans. Gilafron arrived and we started our march east. Shortly after that our scouts found Fluksen (Molc and the monster hunters) headed towards my southern city. My shamans would have caught up with my main army the next turn, but I decided to send them back to defend my cities.
So in the end, Olop didn't manage to harass you stealthily with Hunters or Shamans?
And the Armor of the Obsidian was not directly useful? (game ended before)
I'm not very clear with your final map. Where is the Dragon Dwelling and the retreat there?
Short version: Human Dreadnought with lifestealing knights (Thorgal) and Dwarven Warlord with mass Monster hunters (Fluksen) win a close match against Elven Druid with mass Shamans and many vassals (olop) and Halfling Rogue (Gilafron) that for unknown reasons really couldn’t contribute all that much.
The following report is written from my perspective and the score and mostly I remember my moves better than anyone elses. It would be really cool to hear from our opponents how the game went from their perspective. And I also want to say a big thanks to them: They accepted a super late team replacement, played their turns always very quick and for all this exemplary behaviour they got rewarded with a loss in the tournament, that sucks. I wish you all the best in the loosers bracket, maybe we'll meet again
Thorgal and me started in the northeast of the map (me in the underground). Our initial gameplan was for Thorgal to build lifestealing Knights and I was going to try flooding the map with Monster hunters trying to ensure some kind of map control in midgame when we planned to push with Thorgals knights and whatever I could muster. Needless to say that didn’t quite work out.
We had a rather lousy start. I lost a unit already in the first turn against some stunning wisps and Thorgal had an even greater mishap a few turns later loosing a cavalry with silver medal and his first hired hero on a fight on an air node.
I thought our luck had turned when on turn 11 I was offered this very very lucrative quest from our nearest dwelling. A nightshade and a buttercup fairy just for killing a few Wyverns? Luck was to be on our side and the quest seemed easy enough to make sure that not even my underperforming manual combat skills could screw it up.
About that time Olop and Gilafron discovered us and we could see that they played Elven Archdruid (Olop) and Halfling Rogue (Gilafron).
Not the best match up we thought as both can play very aggressive and sneaky and neither Warlord nor Dreadnought have good early scouting to detect incoming dangers and let’s not start to talk about detecting concealed hunter parties or a few assassins. Also our only counter to stalkers would have to be (forge) priests.
Our game plan became a bit more concrete namely: Take the fairy dwelling and then try to reach the other side of the map with our main armies as quick as possible trying to put pressure on them lest they put real pressure on us and keep running circles around our realm with concealed quick units.
Apart from the grim start the game started to get better as I could clear a column of champions, a sphinx temple and, with the gained Blood brothers buff, a castle of the Lich king (due to my before mentioned fighting skill this cost me 2 monster hunters). All gave me a massive boost as I gained a
seeker item for my Theocrat and the head of the feathered serpent (floating, Heal and some resistances) as well as a crystal skull (vision range, true sight and res) for my main leader.
I felt much better now with a 6 hex-vision-floating-truesight warlord and thanks to the sphinx temple and Thorgals friendly mana fuel cell support I was already pumping monsterhunters with “Scales of fortune†and “Shield of Dispassion†was also in the making.
Not sure about the exact turn but somewhen in the early twenties Thorgal finally took the fairy dwelling and we immediately started heading towards the mid of the map, on my way I cleared another sphinx temple (staff of divine vengeance, well not such a good item but I needed the research points so I didn’t sell it...) and was on my way to complete the explorer research tree - Including master cartographer to make up for our poor scouting.
In the underground a Goblin Dreadnought was slowly making it’s way towards the center of the map too where we found that olop had another fairy dwelling vassal.
On the surface we found a dragon dwelling in the middle of the map and – oh wonder! - it was still up for taking in it’s northeast there was a big lake and Thorgal went the northern route while I went south to reach the dwelling. Unfortunately that was when I saw olop and he seemed to have brought nearly 3 full stacks of units.
Together we could have pushed olop away, but unfortunately Thorgal was on the other side of the lake and alone neither of our stacks was strong enough to stand against olops army so I had to retreat, fortunately Thorgal had another stack of knights lead by a newly bought hero coming from home and after 3 turns of retreat my main army could meet up with them and quickly take out a column of champions and a ziggurat before olop would get it to evolve his T3 shock serpent. But in return the dragon dwelling and yet another quest was lost to olop and Thorgals main army was somewhat cut off and he was stumbling with just one drone as scout towards the west. Where, and I think this surprised everyone, he practically stumbled upon Gilafrons realm. It was our luck that Thorgals stack was not expected there and we believe Gilafron was involved in some murky “underground-business†with a Naga dwelling at that time and Thorgal could take one of Gilafrons cities pretty much undisturbed. At that time also master cartographer finished and we could finally see what were always wondering about when checking the diplomacy menu, namely that olop and gilafron indeed both only had 2 cities. With 4 elite knights and 2 heroes in the middle of our adversaries already somewhat weak economy and Olops forward push deflected we felt quite confident. Even with them still controlling the middle of the map.
But again things didn’t quite go as planned and Thorgals leader stack, who was trying to retreat over seas to evade the incoming defenders both from Gilafron and Olop rallying to save Gilafrons city was caught embarked and even though they fought valiantly and turned the sea red with the blood of their foes, they were ultimately killed. Only a single one of Olops shamans survived the battle.
But our forward pressure was as gone as Thorgals main army.
As small recompensation my Dreadnought stack took Olops underground fairy dwelling.
We decided that going for the dragon dwelling now was unfortunately not a good option and instead, fueled by the steady flow of monsterhunters (now from 2 cities) I decided to split my army further: My main leader (floating) and 6 Monster hunters would go south, to circle around Olops detection and attack his southernmost city, while my Theocrat hero would take the rest of the army and go underground to take out a haunted boneyard and a few other small sites, we hoped that with death march this stack could ensure to reunite with Thorgals rebuilding army should olop send a considerable force towards us. Thorgal in the meantime was starting to expand his empire, rebuild an army and take out another castle of the lich king within his domain.
About the time when his leader had returned and he had taken out the castle of the lich king we spotted Olop and a smaller army of Gilafron marching towards us. They took Thorgals south-western city bydos without us being able to defend. Thorgal sent 2 stacks of knights towards the west to make his capital a bit less of an attractive target while his leader, returning from the lich kings castle in our northern realm had to take cover behind the defensive army I could muster.
I traded him an underground city of mine to move his throne and we braced for the storm.
Part of Olops army (Gilafrons units not in the picture) are trying to plunder Bydos while my Main army and Thorgals leader linger in the north, the city in the east is Thorgals capital.
I took his city the next turn killing another shaman and a dread spider queen. Without losses this time. In the meantime my Dreadnought had cleared a lost city in the UG and found a fantastic item: The armor of the black knight. My leader was going to become a real monster
The dreadnought and his army had also broken to the surface and were on their way towards my leader to reinforce and continue the push into olops realm.
Things were going better for Olop in our realm though as he found an angle in my defense forces to attack from the back (I misjudged and thought he couldn’t reach there) and what a victory that was 16 of my units including my Theocrat, that gave resurgence and holy champion to his whole stack and also had a valuable seeker item. Other notable units that died in this unfortunate fight were a trustworthy champion 1 firstborn, a champion berserker, a champion 3 Boar rider and my very first Phalanx. - RIP
In return olop only lost 6 units
Luckily enough the military-industrial complex of Thorgal and me had produced enough units and Gilafrons troups couldn’t follow quickly enough to catch up with Olops bold push. So Thorgals leader could lead the retribution blow. His leader died in the attack to defend the homeland, but so did Olops army.
Without an army, only one city left, his leader in limbo and my charming little dwarven warlord on his doorstep Olop surrendered and Gilafron did likewise when it was his turn.
Attached is a (nearly) complete overland map with the routes of Thorgals and my main armies during the game as well as the scores. Overall it was a rather equally matched game with mistakes being made on both sides, I would be really interested to know what happened to Gilafron. We were pretty afraid of stalkers and/or nasty armies of converted units, but he seemed to have had a very bad game and rarely participated in the fights. Olop had a very tough stand with Archdruid units against masses of Monster hunters and Knights, but nonetheless brought his team close to winning.
What turn did you reach? About 3 weeks left.
Merry Christmas
it's your turn for already 2 days now. Not a big problem but whats the matter all of a sudden we were so fast until now and I would like to finish the game asap as I think we are pretty much the last match of turn 1 still running.
Will be re-reported with actual results when the match ends.
What turn did you reach?
Now it shall work!
System notification
Replacement Notification
Bad news are though that I will be away and without my PC next week from the 4-6th december so I can't play on these days
Round 2 of the tournament will however start on 9 December as initially planned. It means 4 matches out of the 8 to be played will be on hold while the 2 delayed matches are completed.
Good luck with the rest of the match!
Yes it should be no starting skill but you can play with it if you prefer. I doubt that will really speed the game though.
We have the 4 class/race. So Fluksen & Thorgal agree, you can start.
Game started
Was a bit surprised by normal starting skills, somehow thought we'd play without starting skills, but checked on your pictures and it's there and marcus said it's alright. Probably also better this way considering that we don't have much time.
Both teams need to send class races. If it wasn't disclosed in last match you can of course use the same (and even if it was disclosed, you can still provide the same).
An Admin also need to replace BluePanther with Thorgal, Im not sure if the host can make that happen.
Since you are a bit behind the other games I suggest you put a turn timer on once the first turn is done, and then make this game a priority and try to get as many turns in as possible. Turn order can not be more optimized than current order, since you are on totally different time zones
Best of luck and you will get an extension to at least have a small chance to finish the game.

Screen shots coming next.
Indeed, time is limited (44 days left) and your playtime means you probably can't do more than 1 turn every 48 hours, except if one of you can play in the morning of his timezone.
We need to discuss with Marcus how much extra time your match can get.
But yes, please do choose a new class/race and host ASAP to save as many days as possible.
think playing players, not AIs (or one of each), is a much better way to go. :}
But I am a little concerned with reduced time to play. I believe we only have
about 40 days left to finish the game (from Tuesday). I suspect we would be
hard pressed to get 20 turns in (play a turn every other day). We are currently
on turn 13, so we would not get much farther along than we are now.
New game :-(
I wrote to Hiliadan and marcus regarding the future of my team in the tournament with blauerpanther being "not very motivated". I have someone to replace him with (Thorgal) and did highly favour the replacement to happen after this match!
However Marcus and Hiliadan think otherwise and rule that we must restart the match (even though it is very late!) In which case you would have to host yet another game and write your race/class combinations to Hiliadan and marcus. I am away on the weekend, so I guess that is the time you have to talk the judges out of their decision if you so desire and if that is even possible because we can't start before tuesday anyway.
I am still ready to play this match regardless of whatever new match we might have to start.
I am very sorry for the hassle that my team has made you go through!
Damn
but my teampartner was so frustrated about his bad start that he just gave up. He is now played by the AI
So you probably already won this match (considering that I'm not really good myself...), but i would like to keep playing anyway if that is ok?
Also we don't have a turn timer, but I just want to mention already that I'm away next weekend from friday to sunday. So expect a short break in my turns then. Sorry
